Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes that Manchester City and Manchester United should not be allowed into the Europa League. Both Manchester teams crashed out of the Champions League this week and Redknapp has said that he is not a fan of the format which see’s third placed teams in the Champions League groups drop into the Europa League. "I have got to be honest I don't know how you go from the Champions League into the Europa League anyway. Do you really?” "If you get knocked out you are out, surely. If you go into a competition and get beat, you are out of it. What are you doing coming back into another competition?” He added; "If you get knocked out of the FA Cup we will all come back into the semi-finals of the Carling Cup or something. It's unbelievable. I just don't understand it.” Redknapp has made no secret of his lack of desire to progress in the Europa League and barring a shock in the last round of matches they will be exiting the competition. Despite Tottenham’s poor show in Europe this season the campaign has been beneficial to them as it has given them the opportunity to give youngsters such as Tom Carroll and Jake Livermore some much needed playing time. |
