Boca Juniors claimed a share of first place in the Argentine league and extended their unbeaten run to 36 matches with a 2-0 victory over San Lorenzo in a fierce Buenos Aires derby Sunday.

Tigre has also won 10 points from four matches following a 1-0 victory over Lanús on Sunday. Boca and Tigre are two ahead of Vélez Sarsfield, Estudiantes and All Boys.

In other matches Sunday, Colón and Unión drew 2-2 in the Santa Fe derby, and Arsenal de Sarandí and Racing played out a scoreless draw.

Boca had several chances early, but most of the opportunities in the scoreless first half belonged to San Lorenzo. The second half was also lacklustre until Juan Sánchez Miño broke through in the 59th with a 15-yard, low shot. Pablo Mouche added the other goal in the 87th by feigning the goalkeeper on an acute angle to seal the win.

Uruguayan forward Santiago Silva started up front in his first match for Boca in the league.

Silva was signed from Italian club Fiorentina, where he seldom played. The agreement announced in January said Silva could play only in Copa Libertadores games. The Argentine Football Association ruled last week he could also play the in the league due to the injury of Boca player Nicolás Colazo.

The move has angered Silva’s former Argentine club, Vélez, which is also a top contender for the league title.

Diego Morales scored in the third minute to seal Tigre’s victory.

In Colon’s draw, Iván Moreno y Fabianesi scored two first-half goals, but Diego Jara and Nicolás Correa added second-half goals for Unión.

On Saturday, All Boys and Vélez drew 0-0, Estudiantes defeated San Martín 1-0 and Argentinos Juniors overwhelmed Independiente 3-1.

Estudiantes won thanks to an own-goal by Diego Sosa, and Nicolás Batista, Fabián Bordagaray and Pablo Barzola scored for Argentinos whom are now under newly appointed coach Leonardo Astrada. Roberto Battión hit one back for Independiente.

Coach Ramón Díaz resigned after Independiente’s fourth straight league loss.

On Friday, Belgrano defeated Newell’s 2-0 and Banfield drew 1-1 against Godoy Cruz.

On Monday, Olimpo de Bahía Blanca hosts Atlético Rafaela.
