SPAIN Iker Casillas-7 Had a great game especially in the first half when he made several saves from Italian players' efforts, mainly Thiago Motta's header late in that first period. Didn't do too much in the second half, although he was forced to pick the ball inside his net. Alvaro Arbeloa- 6 The Real Madrid defender had a relatively quiet night as he didn't really contribute much in going forward and didn't really do anything particularly special at the back either. Gerard Pique- 6,5 Was troubled quite a lot by the movement of Italy's forwards, but the Barcelona center back did made several crucial interceptions in the game. Sergio Ramos - 6,5 Similar to Pique, Ramos had a relatively solid match, but was almost caught when he got robbed by Mario Balotelli early in the second half, luckly the Real Madrid man managed to get back in time and denied the Italian. Jordi Alba - 6,5 Had a relatively quiet first half but improved after the break especially in the offensive aspect as he venture forward several times to help his team streching the Italian defense Xabi Alonso– 6.5 The Real Madrid man played his normal game in controlling the midfield, spreading the ball around expertly throughout the match. Sergio Busquets – 6 A pretty usual match from the Barcelona player, but he wasn't as influential as he probably wanted too. Had some dificulties in the first half but improved his performance after the break Xavi Hernandez - 6,5 Played his normal game in controlling the midfield, but didn't really have his usual brilliance on the day. The playmaker couldn't provide his usual deadly assists for his teammates up front. Andres Iniesta – 7,5 Showed his class with some excellent dribbling, movement and also exquisite passing. Rather unfortunate not to get himself in the scoresheet despite being Spain's most dangerous player Cesc Fabregas– 7 Scored the equalizer for Spain with a fine finish in the second half. Created several problems for the Italian back line with his runs into the penalty area but was substituted midway in the second half for Fernando Torres David Silva– 6,5 Didn't really showcase his best performance but the Valencia man still had an important role as it was his assist that helped Fabregas scored Spain's equalizer.
Substitutes:
Jesus Navas- 6.5 Played well since his entrace in the second half, provided Spain with some dangerous attacking play from wide areas. Simply helping his team in becoming more dominant in the second period. Fernando Torres- 6 Wasted several goal scoring chances since he came on for Fabregas but still looking pretty lively up front, causing some problems for Italian defense with his pace.
ITALY Gianluigi Buffon - 7 Didn't really have much to do in the first half but was called up into action pretty frequently after the break. The Juventus keeper made several excellent saves, including winning the ball expertly from Fernando Torres' burst midway into the second period. Leonardo Bonucci - 6.5 The Juventus man played a good game, made some solid tackles and interceptions but looking rather tired in the second half and almost got caught several times. Daniele De Rossi – 7,5 Played an excellent game as one of the three men defense, made lots of great defensive works that frustrated the Spanish attackers. One of De Rossi's best game for his country. Giorgio Chiellini - 6,5 Had a good game as well at the back, was very solid througout the game but got rather clumpsy at times. Started out very strongly in the first half but faded a bit in the second half. Christian Maggio- 5,5 The Napoli man had a really disappointing game considering his usual performance on club level. Playing in his favorite wing back role, he didn't had much influence going forward and wasn't brilliant at the back either. Claudio Marchisio - 6,5 Showed lots of grit and determination in his game, but was rather inconsistent througout the match. Had two great goal scoring opportunities which he couldn't convert. Thiago Motta - 6 Did his job in the midfield well, helping out the defense and going forward in several occassion. Had a wonderful goal scoring opportunity in the first half, was replaced in the end by Antonio Nocerino Emanuele Giaccherini- 6 The debutant played with lots of determination and energy, but those were pretty much that he offered in the match as he barely did anything special going forward. Did a pretty solid effort at the back but nothing really special from the Juventus man Antonio Cassano – 7 The Ac Milan forward was actually playing really well, was involved in most of Italian goal scoring chances in the first half. Holding the ball very well up front, looking a bit tired midway in the second half, which was probably the reason for his substitution. Mario Balotelli - 5,5 Had a pretty poor game, didn't show much of his techniques and skills up front. Wasted a glorious chance in front of the goal as he hesitated after winning the ball from Sergio Ramos, allowing the defender to eventually got back. Substitutes:
Antonio Di Natale - 7 Scoring the only goal for Italy in the game with a fine finish. Looking really lively earlier on but faded later on when his team wasn't attacking that much. Antonio Nocerino - N/A Came on as a late substitution for Thiago Motta and couldn't make a contribution. |
