SoccerAnchor's Kieran Francis analyses how the players went in Group D's heavyweight stalemate between France and England...

FRANCE

Hugo Lloris - 6

Wasn't really troubled much all night except picking Lescott's header out of the net, which he wasn't at fault for.

Phillipe Mexes - 6

Solid performance from the former Roma defender. Kept the dangerous Welbeck and Young relatively quiet.

Adil Rami - 6

Same as above. Solid but unspectacular. Will be interesting to see how the pairingg copes with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Andrei Shevchenko.

Patrice Evra - 6

Unspectacular but kept control of Glen Johnson's probing runs from deep.

Mathieu Debuchy - 7

Great performance by Bacary Sagna's injury replacement. Kept Ashley Cole pinned back in his own half

Alou Diarra - 5.5

Had a couple of close efforts on goal but defended Lescott really poorly for England's only goal.

Florent Malouda - 6

Hardly influenced the game. Shrunk in the shadow of France's other attacking players.

Yohan Cabaye - 6

Unassuming but dangerous at times. Committed a number of fouls but showed his quality in glimpses, particularly his powerful long range shot.

Franck Ribery - 6.5

The Bayern playmaker worked hard the entire match, continually demanding the ball. While not impacting scoreboard, his ball retention was superb.

Samir Nasri - 7.5

Brilliant strike for France's equaliser and worked well with partner-in-crime Ribery. Will be a handful for any team in this form.

Karim Benzema - 6

Some nice touches and shots, but didn't have the impact he would have liked. Needs to get forward more and use his large frame to his advantage.

Substitutes:

Hatem Ben Arfa - N/A

Only played five minutes. No visible impact.

Marvin Martin - N/A

Only played five minutes. No visible impact.

ENGLAND

Joe Hart - 5.5

Made some good saves but will be disappointed at being beaten at his near post.

Glen Johnson - 5.5

Caught out of position regularly and was lucky that Ribery could not take full advantage.

Joleon Lescott - 7

Worked well in a  defensive pairing with John Terry and capped his night with a great header from Gerrard's free kick.

John Terry - 6

Showed that he could still perform well on the big stage.

Ashley Cole - 6

Was pinned back in his own half by Debuchy and therefore struggled to get forward.

Scott Parker - 6

Hustled and bustled the midfield area tirelessly. Will be disappointed that he was sitting too deep as Nasri shaped to strike the equaliser.

Steven Gerrard - 6.5

Quality free kick for Lescott's header. Defended surprisingly well in a deep midfield role.

James Milner - 5.5

Should have scored after being put through on goal and rounding Lloris. Needed more composure.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 6

Surprise start for the 18 year old who excelled at times. Faded toward end of the game but showed considerable promise

Ashley Young - 5.5

Disapppointing performance from the United winger who was started up front by Hodgson. Did not get involved enough

Danny Welbeck - 6

Led the line well, particularly considering the fact he was isolated on occasion. Will be better for the experience.

Substitutes:

Jermain Defoe - N/A

Made a few good runs but was on during a spell of French possession dominance.

Jordan Henderson - N/A

On for 12 minutes but barely sighted.

Theo Walcott - N/A

Only played for two minutes.
