Former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has ended his eight-year stay at Goodison Park having accepted a deal to cross over the Atlantic to join New York Red Bulls.

The Toffees have agreed a £1million fee with the MLS outfit, despite having two years still remaining on his contract.

"Everton have agreed with Major League Soccer that Tim Cahill can be transferred to the New York Red Bulls," Everton's official website stated.

"Tim, 32, will move to the Red Bulls for a nominal fee, subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. He will travel to the US in the next few days."

Cahill has always been a fan favourite in Liverpool and many will be sad to see a man who scored 68 goals in 278 appearances for Everton leave. He has recently been heavily linked with lucrative moves to Asia, after Saudi Arabia and China came knocking on the door.

But it seems that the man revered and regularly trusted by manager David Moyes since arriving from Millwall in 2004 will instead line up alongside former Arsenal genius Thierry Henry.

The 33-year-old Australian moved to England in August 1997 after leaving Sydney United and has played at both the 2006 and 2010 World Cup for the Socceroos, scoring Australia's first ever goal at the championships.
